This article summarizes the author's perspective of two decades of breast a
ugmentation based on clinical experience using virtually every type of impl
ant, incision location, pocket location, dissection technique and instrumen
tation available from 1977 to 2001. Based on this experience, the author fo
cuses on patient education, the importance of patient choice, patient evalu
ation and preoperative planning, surgical techniques, patient recovery, and
factors to limit reoperations.
