Abstract
In the German federal government's opinion, interim storage on the sites of nuclear power plants of spent fuel elements is to minimize the number of t ransports within Germany. As a span of approximately five years must be bri dged until the interim stores now planned and filed for will be commissione d and, at the same time, transport activities are to be reduced, a kind of anticipated interim storage, or temporary storage, on power plant sites is unavoidable. The concept for the temporary storage of spent fuel elements i s described in the article. On the basis of this concept, the Neckar Joint Nuclear Power Station recently was awarded a storage permit for nuclear fue ls under Sec. 6 of the German Atomic Energy Act. Temporary stores following the same concept have been filed for, and are now in the licensing procedu re, for another four sites (Philippsburg, Biblis, Krummel, Brunsbuttel).
