Bj. Hwang et al., Characteristics of Pt/Nafion((R)) electrodes prepared by an impregnation-reduction method in sensing hydrogen, J NEW M E S, 4(2), 2001, pp. 69-75
The influences of reductant concentration and platinum loading on the respo
nse, recovery time and sensitivity of Pt/Nafion((R)) electrodes prepared by
an impregnation-reduction method for detecting hydrogen were investigated
Electrodes with a Pt loading of 4.99 mg cm(-2) obtained using 0.0107 M Pt(N
H3)(4)Cl-2 and 0. 06 M NaBH4, showed a maximum sensitivity of 0.0744 muA pp
m(-1) in the H-2 concentration range of 0-4508 ppm. However; electrodes wit
h a Pt loading of 7.40 mg cm(-2) made using 0.015 M Pt(NH3)(4)Cl-2 and 0.06
M NaBH4 showed the fastest response and recovery. Generally both the respo
nse and the recovery time decreased with increasing hydrogen concentration.
A model is proposed to illustrate the sensing phenomenon.
