Abstract
Antimony-121 Mossbauer spectra have been measured at 20 K for the Sb-Mo dou ble oxides and oxides: i.e. Sb4Mo10O31, Sb2Mo10O31, Sb2MoO6, orthorhombic S b2O3 and alpha -Sb2O4. Only Sb-III absorption peaks were observed for Sb4Mo 10O31. Sb2Mo10O31, and Sb2MoO6, indicating the average oxidation number of molybdenum is +5.0. +5.6 and +6.0, respectively. The values of isomer shift and quadrupole coupling constant for the double oxides fall between those of Sb2O3 and Sb-III site of alpha -Sb2O4. This is interpreted in terms of t he stereochemical activity of the lone pair of the Sb-III atoms. (C) 2001 E lsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
