Abstract
Copper-62 labeled diacetyl-bis(N-4-methylthiosemicarbazone) (Cu-62-ATSM) ha s been proposed as a generator produced positron-emitting tracer for hypoxi c tissue imaging. To clarify the usefulness of Cu-62-ATSM for myocardial is chemia, Cu-62-ATSM PET was performed in 7 patients with coronary artery dis ease. Increased myocardial uptake of Cu-62-ATSM was observed (myocardium/bl ood ratio: 3.09) in one patient wi th unstable angina, who had increased F- 18-fluorodeoxy glucose (F-18-FDG) uptake under the fasting condition. The o ther 6 patients, who were clinically stable, did not have increased Cu-62-A TSM uptake, although abnormal F-18-FDG uptake was seen in 4 patients. This preliminary study suggests that Cu-62-ATSM is a promising PET tracer for hy poxic imaging in acute ischemia.
