Abstract
Cytokines produced by T cells are involved in chronic asthma. Relevant anti gens for nonatopic asthma are still mostly unknown. Peripheral blood mononu clear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from adult asthmatic donors and incubated with Candida albicans extract. Proliferation response and cytokine product ion were analyzed. IL-2 and IL-5 were detectable in the cultures incubated with C. albicans extract, whereas IL-4 was undetectable. PBMCs obtained fro m some nonatopic asthma patients produced IL-5 upon stimulation of C. albic ans extract. C. albicans allergen may be involved in the airway eosinophili c inflammation th rough the induction of IL-5 production by Th cells. Copyr ight (C) 2001 S. Karger AG, Basel.
