Abstract
New thermodynamic data are presented for the Gibbs energy of formation of d olomite (CaMg(CO3)(2(s))). Using electrochemical cells, we find DeltaG(f)de grees [CaMg(CO3)(2(s)))] equal to -2147.82 kJ (.) mol(-1). The performance of lattice energy calculations on dolomite, calcite, and magnesite yields a theoretical value of -2148.90 kJ (.) mol(-1) for DeltaG(f)degrees [CaMg(CO 3)(2(s)))]. Both our theoretical and experimental results show excellent ag reement with drop calorimetry experiments done by Capobianco and Navrotsky (1987) which were used to determine the enthalpy of formation of dolomite f rom those of calcite and magnesite,
