Abstract
A new dye, trans-4-[p-(N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylamino)-styryl]-N-methylpyridin ium iodide has been synthesized, and the two-photon absorption (TPA), TPA-i nduced frequency up-conversion emission, and two-photon pumped frequency up -converted lasing properties of this new dye were experimentally studied. T his new dye has a TPA cross-section of sigma (2) = 7.0 x 10(-48) cm(4) s/ph oton at 1064 nm, and exhibits a high lasing efficiency. The net conversion efficiency from the absorbed 1064 nm pump pulse energy to the 632 nm up-con verted lasing energy is 4.3% at the pump power of 4 mJ. (C) 2001 Elsevier S cience B.V.
