This paper presents a novel technique to search for neutrino magnetic momen
ts. A carefully timed oscillating magnetic field can split the neutrino's e
nergy states and thus cause the helicity to "tumble" as it travels. The ult
imate sensitivity of the technique depends strongly on the magnetic field s
trength, so the estimates presented here are very speculative. The original
talk in Monterey discussed this and several other search methods, most of
which were shown to be fruitless-these additional studies are not included
in this paper. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
