Compared with the results of commonly used Reynolds equation, numerical sol
utions of Navier-Stokes and continuity equations are given for lubricant fi
lms in an oil wedge and a Rayleigh bearing. Characteristic length ratio (L-
y/L-xz), one important parameter in the assumptions of Reynolds theory, is
discussed in detail to analyse the difference. Some special jumping phenome
na appear around Rayleigh step, the increment from average value is up to 2
8%, which may aggravate the wearing of the step tip.
