Abstract
A small scintillating fiber camera for space dosimetry was developed. The c amera consists of a scintillating fiber stack bundled with 0.25-mm square f ibers, two image intensifier units whose input windows are 40 mm in diamete r, and two photomultipliers. Neutron events are distinguished from gamma-ra y events by observing three-dimensional track images of recoil protons and electrons. Experimental results show that events caused by recoil protons w ith energies above 5 MeV can be distinguished from gamma-ray events. The pu rpose of this camera is to evaluate the LETinfinity of charged particles pr oduced in the interaction of neutrons with the nucleus in scintillating fib ers. The camera is expected to measure the dose contribution from higher en ergy neutron, especially, more than similar to 10 MeV, which is the upper l imit energy of the present measurement in space.
