Abstract
Magnetic coupling was used to transfer single flux quanta between the regio ns where the ground planes were floating. A single flux quantum pulse movin g along an inductor, electrically connected to one ground plane induced ano ther single flux quantum moving along an inductor, electrically connected t o another ground plane. To enhance the magnetic coupling between the two in ductors we used a ground plane hole, A mask layout of the magnetically coup led flux transfer circuit with a ground plane hole was made based on a circ uit that was optimized by using a Josephson circuit simulator. The value of the mutual inductances between the coupled inductors ranged between 2.7 pH and 3.1 pH when the circuits were fabricated with Nb technology. We also d iscuss the possible applications of both magnetically coupled pulse-transfe r circuits to single flux quantum digital-to-analog converters and current recycling in single flux quantum devices.
