Abstract
The birth of cosmic-ray physics rang in the last century, and X-rays from b eyond the Earth were first detected just prior to the author's conception. High-energy astronomy is, then, a young science, but it is not too early to revisit some of its history, where lessons for the new millennium may be f ound.
