Abstract
New unsymmetric dinucleating pyrazolate ligands with different chelating si de arms in the 3- and 5-positions of the heterocycle have been prepared. Th ese ligands provide a "soft" PIN site and either an adjacent "N-3" (HLa) or "N2S2" (HLb) coordination pocket, and they have been employed to build hom o- and heterobimetallic complexes featuring various types of asymmetry. Bot h L-a and L-b form the mixed-spin dinickel(II) chloride systems 4 and 5, re spectively, which in the former case dimerizes via Cl bridges to give a tet ranuclear compound. In the heterobimetallic complex 6 the Pd-II is specific ally housed within the (PN)-N-boolean AND compartment. All new complexes ha ve been characterized by X-ray crystallography, and conformational and elec tronic coupling between the two metal ions of the dinuclear scaffolds have been analyzed.
