Abstract
Ponderomotive force in the inductively coupled discharge is analyzed in the kinetic approximation taking into account the effects of the electron ther mal motion. It is shown that the ponderomotive force is significantly reduc ed in strongly nonlocal regimes when the characteristic transient frequency upsilon (th)/delta far exceeds the frequency of the electromagnetic field oscillation omega,upsilon (th)/delta > omega, where v(th) is the electron t hermal velocity; delta is the characteristic length scale for field inhomog eneity. The developed theoretical model is in reasonable agreement with exp erimental data. (C) 2001 American Institute of Physics.
