Mould growth has detrimental effects on the quality of foods and may result
in mycotoxin contamination. Mycoflora of date fruits collected from differ
ent geographical regions of Andhra Pradesh, India was analyzed. The pattern
of distribution of fungal population was different both in quality and qua
ntity on different date fruit samples. Species of Aspergillus, Penicillium
and Fusarium were dominant mycotoxigenic fungi. The percentage of toxigenic
ity not only varied with the fungus but also with the sample and geographic
al conditions.
