Abstract
Using 4-mercaptopyridine (4-MPy) self-assembled on gold substrate as coupli ng agents, monolayer of cobalt ( II ) -5, 10, 9 15, 20-tetrakisphenyl-porph yrin (CoTPP) was fabricated on the pyridinyl-terminated surface. Further de position of Au nanoparticles enables the detection of CoTPP molecules in mo nolayer to be possible by Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy. The red-shif t of "structure sensitive" peaks of porphyrin ring indicates the existence of chemical interaction between CoTPP molecules and the pyridine terminals, which was believed as the coordination between the nitrogen atom of pyridi ne ring and the cobalt atom in CoTPP. From the orientation of 4-mercaptopyr idine SAMs, it can be deduced that the CoTPP molecules are approximately pa rallel to Au substrate in the above structure.
