Abstract
The effect of formaldehyde and heat treatment alone or in combination on ni trogen and dry matter disappearance was studied using 3 fistulated adult ma le goats maintained on basal diet of moth chara. The experimental feeds use d were guar-meal (GM), soybean-meal (SBM), sunflower-cake (SFC) and fish-me al (FM); control consisted of untreated feeds (T-1), while to protect the p rotein from microbial degradation, feeds were treated with formaldehyde @ 1 .5 g/100 g CP (T-2), heated at 150 degreesC for 2 hr (T-3) and treated by c ombination of above (T-4). The extent of dry matter and nitrogen disappeara nce was determined by in situ polyester bag technique. The individual feeds were incubated in rumen for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 24 hr. T-4 groups show ed maximum reduction in nitrogen, disappearance followed by T-2, T-3 and T- 1 respectively.
