C. Zeana et al., Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium meningitis successfully managed with linezolid: Case report and review of the literature, CLIN INF D, 33(4), 2001, pp. 477-482
Enterococci cause serious illness in immunocompromised patients and severel
y ill, hospitalized patients. Resistance to vancomycin has increased in fre
quency during the past few years. Limited therapeutic options are available
for vancomycin-resistant enterococcal infections and the optimum therapy h
as not been established. We report a case of nosocomial vancomycin-resistan
t Enterococcus faecium meningitis in the setting of hyperinfection with Str
ongyloides stercoralis that was successfully treated with linezolid. We als
o review the previously reported cases of vancomycin-resistant E. faecium m
eningitis.
