We describe a case of locally advanced unresectable squamous-cell carcinoma
of the oropharynx in a young woman with Bloom's syndrome. She was treated
with radical radiation therapy and concurrent chemotherapy (cisplatin and 5
-flurouracil). She was unable to complete treatment due to the development
of severe side effects: confluent mucositis, moist desquamating skin reacti
on, severe diarrhea and severe myelosupression with neutropenic sepsis. The
limited relevant literature is presented. We conclude that chemotherapy sh
ould be used with extreme caution in Bloom's syndrome patients.
