Abstract
A method of analysis is proposed and applied to the rotational spectra of s ome diatomic molecules measured in the recent high-precision experiments. S uch a spectrum is usually fitted by an 8th order polynomial assuming that t he spectrum is a smooth function of angular momentum (the total angular mom entum of the system). As a matter of fact, the measured spectra often show some irregularities (deviations from a smooth behavior) and this becomes cl early visible if one analyzes: the data in terms of the present method. Thi s method of analysis therefore detects at which angular moments the irregul arities occur in the data and such information would be most useful for und erstanding the nature of the perturbation which is responsible for the occu rrence of irregularities. How the actual spectra would look like is discuss ed for a few selected cases in terms of simulations.
