Abstract
A column packed with titania stationary phase was evaluated for the separat ion of ionic solutes. The retention behaviour of anions, cations and benzoi c carboxylic acids were investigated using various carboxylic acids as the eleunts. Factors that strongly influenced solute retention were the type of eluent, eluent pH and concentration. The titania column exhibited signific ant ion exchange and ligand exchange behaviour, which depended strongly on eluent pH and types of eluents. Separation of anions, cations and simultane ous separation of anions and cations could be obtained by careful selection of the conditions of the eluent.
