The simultaneous propagation of two optical pulses through a doped nonlinea
r dispersive medium modelled by a resonant three-level system was investiga
ted numerically, within the framework of a pair of coupled extended nonline
ar Schrodinger equations. These included the contribution of the dopant res
onances whose dynamics is governed by Bloch equations. In this work, we rev
iew the interesting possibilities on the manipulation of fields such as clo
ning, breakup and soliton interactions, that the combination of coherent po
pulation trapping with nonlinear dispersive media offers.
