Abstract
C-13 magic-angle-spinning NMR spectra in solid were measured in mixed-metal 1-D complexes [Ni1-xPdxX(chxn)(2)]X-2 (X: Cl, Br; 0.0 less than or equal t ox less than or equal to1.0) where the antiferromagnetically coupled parama gnetic -X-Ni3+-X-Ni3+- chains are formed at x=0.0, while the mixed-valence -X-Pd2+-X-Pd4+- state is made at x=1.0. Upon increasing x from 0.0, C-13 sp ectra in the C-alpha position in the chxn ligand was broadened and shifted from original Pd2+ and Pd4+ positions indicating the fluctuation of Pd vale ncy in mixed states. A marked spectrum broadening observed in C-beta is als o attributable to the effect from the partial mixing of paramagnetic Pd3+ s ites in consistent with reported ESR results.
