Abstract
This article compares and contrasts three types of innovations, namely: pro duct innovation, process innovation and organizational innovation. From sim ilarities and differences between these three types, implications for the t heory and practice of innovation management are inferred. Most of these imp lications seem to be generic, i.e. generally applicable whatever the type o f innovation and organization involved. Surprisingly few implications are c ontingent in that they are linked to the characteristics of the innovation involved.
