Abstract
Novel dinuclear lanthanide complexes, [REL3(phen)](2)(RE = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu; L = trans-2, 3-dimethylacrylate, phen = phenanthroline), have been synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR, UV spectroscopy and elemental ana lysis. The single crystal of [LaL(3)phen](2) has been determined by X-ray c rystallography, which crystallizes in the monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n w ith Z = 2, cell dimensions a = 1.296 2(4) nm, b = 1.328 3(4) nm, c = 1.548 5(5) nmr beta = 95.45(2)degrees. The structure was refined to R = 0.033 for observed 3 112 reflections and consists of centrosymmetric dinuclear molec ule. Lanthanum atoms are bridged by two bidenate and two terdentate carboxy lato groups with La . . . La separation of 0.409 4 nm. Each Lanthanum atom is nine coordinate and exhibits a distorted tricapped trigonal prism. The L a-O and La-N bond distances are in the range of 0.246 0-0.275 6 and 0.271 8 -0.276 0 nmr respectively.
