Abstract
Novel dinuclear lanthanide complexes, [REL3(phen)](2) (where RE = La, Ce, P r, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd; HL = trans-2,3-dimethylacrylic acid, phen = 1,10-phenant hroline), have been synthesized. The single crystal structures of [LaL(3)ph en](2) and [GdL(3)phen](2) have been determined by X-ray crystallography, w hich shows that they are isomorphous. Lanthanum(III) or Gadolinium(III) ato ms are bridged by two bidentate and two terdentate carboxylato groups to gi ve centrosymmetric dimers with an La . . . La separation of 4.09 Angstrom a nd a Gd . . . Gd separation of 3.98 Angstrom. Each metal atom is nine coord inate and exhibit a distorted, tricapped trigonal prismatic geometry.
