M. Shimomura et T. Sawadaishi, Bottom-up strategy of materials fabrication: a new trend in nanotechnologyof soft materials, CURR OP COL, 6(1), 2001, pp. 11-16
Recent progresses in nanometer-scale molecular self-organization and mesosc
opic pattern formation are reviewed from the view point of nanotechnology o
f bottom-up materials fabrication. Nanometer-scale layer-by-layer self-asse
mblies on nanoparticles will provide wide applications in many fields. The
micro-contact printing technique is effectively used for up-sizing the nano
structured molecular assemblies as submicrometer- and micrometer-scale patt
erns. Dissipative structures formed in non-equilibrium systems as self-orga
nized spatio-temporal structures are newly employed for the mesoscopic patt
erning of the nanostructured molecular assemblies. (C) 2001 Elsevier Scienc
