Abstract
In a fusion-evaporation reaction the total gamma-energy and multiplicity af ter particle evaporation - the so-called entry distribution - can be used t o estimate the height of the fission barrier as function of angular momentu m. This method is especially favorable for unstable nuclei, for which the f ission barrier is otherwise very difficult to measure. Here, we have measur ed the entry distributions of Th-220 at beam energies of 206 MeV and 219.5 MeV in the Yb-176(Ca-48,4n) reaction. The results are compared to a previou s measurement using photofission.
