Although the crossroads between Paul Tillich and Martin Heidegger have alre
ady been explored in many ways, new elements of discussion arise from recen
t clarifications of the theological background of Heidegger's early philoso
phy of history. The purpose of this study is to show that both Tillich and
Heidegger establish, in some of their early writings and lectures, a tight
connection between the Christian concept of kairos and their own search for
an "epochal" understanding of history.
