Abstract
High-spin bands have been established in I-111(53) and Xe-113,114(54) that show the characteristics of smooth termination. Unlike the majority of such bands in Z approximate to 50 nuclei, which contain particle-hole excitatio ns across the spherical Z = 50 shell gap, the new bands appear to be built on less-deformed valence-space configurations. This is supported by lifetim e measurements in Xe-114.
