T. Hashimoto et al., Determination of radionuclides in small pieces of archaeological sample and its application to TL-dating, RADIAT MEAS, 33(1), 2001, pp. 95-101
In archaeological TL-dating from precious sample, it is necessary to determ
ine both the accurate measurement of annual dose and natural accumulated do
se, using as small a sample as possible. For these purposes, the small piec
es of sample were separated by sodium polytungstate heavy liquid separation
method. An alpha -liquid scintillation counting method combined with time
interval analysis applied to the simultaneous determination of the U- and T
h-series members, while K-40 was determined by an atomic absorption spectro
photometer. The analytical results were compared with the radioactive conte
nts from the gamma -spectrometry, and gave a good agreement. In addition, t
he natural red thermoluminescence glowcurve from quartz separated was consi
stent with the result from a conventional quartz inclusion procedure. The p
ossibility of practical TL-dating using a smaller sample, approximately 1 g
, was ascertained. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
