Abstract
Conversion electrons from electromagnetic transitions preceding the fission of the 3.7 ns Pu-240f shape isomer have been measured. The electron spectr um shows a broad structure of individually resolved lines with energies bet ween 620 and 650 keV, which are interpreted as the (J(beta) --> J(g)) E0 tr ansitions from the decay of the lowest beta -vibrational band with a phonon energy of 770 keV feeding to the ground state band of Pu-240f. In a combin ed analysis of e(-) and high resolution gamma -ray spectroscopy data previo usly established octupole bands could also be studied in more detail.
