Abstract
The important electron quadrupole D-1-S-1 transition probabilities for Be, Mg and Ca have been computed using a fully relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock method with Breit and QED corrections. In Coulomb gauge, our com puted Einstein coefficient for Ca of 48.1s(-1) is in good agreement with th e recent experimental value of 40 +/- 8s(-1). Our best Einstein coefficient s for Be and Mg are 3884.9s(-1) and 2357.2s(-1), respectively. The existing discrepancy between theory and experiment in Ca is eliminated. There are n o previous results for Be and Mg.
