Abstract
Unidirectional lateral lattice of a unit which in itself consists of small number of lateral-superlattice units has been fabricated from two-dimension al electron gas (2DEG) and its magnetoresistance has been measured. It show s commensurability oscillation similar to that of ordinary lateral superlat tice (LSL), but with much altered amplitude distribution; the amplitude van ishes at some index n, then increases and decreases with n, in marked contr ast to monotonic decrease for ordinary LSL. The amplitude distribution is w ell explained by the relative abundance of semi-classical trajectories resp onsible for the corresponding oscillation. The spacing between peaks or dip s is determined by the lattice period within a unit, as is the case with co mmensurability oscillation of ordinary LSL. The phase, on the other hand, i s shown to be controlled by the distance between adjacent units, allowing i ndependent manipulation of the spacing and the phase of the magnetoresistan ce oscillation.
