Abstract
The structure functions g(1)(p) and g(1)(n) have been measured over the ran ge 0.014 < x < 0.9 and 1 < Q(2) < 40 GeV2 using deep-inelastic scattering o f 48 GeV longitudinally polarized electrons from polarized protons and deut erons. We find that the Q(2) dependence of g(1)(p) (g(1)(n)) at fixed x is very similar to that of the spin-averaged structure function F-1(p) (F-1(n) ). From an NLO QCD fit to all available data we And Gamma (p)(1) - Gamma (n )(1) = 0.176 +/- 0.003 +/- 0.007 at Q(2) = 5 GeV2, in agreement with the Bj orken sum rule prediction of 0.182 +/- 0.005.
