Abstract
It is believed that an inductive energy storage pulsed-power generator with storage inductor and opening switch realizes a lightweight, compact and hi gh-power laser system. However, the technology for opening high current is rather obscure, so that the opening switch is being developed and there are few applications for using in the generator. The purpose of the research i s an extension of the application field of this generator into the laser sy stem whose market is now growing rapidly. Plasma opening switch (POS) is ch osen because as reported the highest current can flow through it in many sw itches and it is possible to open the circuit. At first, in the experiments , a suitable discharge load was made and the practicable supply voltage and the discharge condition were examined. As a result, when the charge voltag e on the main capacitance was 15 kV, the maximum supply voltage was 26kV an d the load current was 8kA. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reser ved.
