Abstract
With the continuing industrial demand for increased production and improved quality control in rolling processes, computational models of high accurac y have become increasingly important. In order to investigate some of the c omputational strategies involved, this paper analyses some typical technolo gical problems: the numerical simulation of the rolling of strips and strip with longitudinal ribs. Strip with longitudinal ribs has been developed in recent years. The main feature of rolling ribbed strips is the local pertu rbation in the deformation of a normal flat. It is a forming process that h as the deformation characteristics of both strip and shaped section. The fo rming process was analysed using the rigid-plastic FEM, and some technologi cal problems are discussed. Good correlation has been obtained between the numerical results and those obtained from experiments. Copyright (C) 2000 J ohn Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
