High-spin states in nuclei around Pb-208 were populated in deep inelastic c
ollisions of Xe-136 and Pb-208 projectiles with Pb-208 targets at beam ener
gies about 12% above the Coulomb barrier. New states in nuclei in the vicin
ity of Pb-208 have been found that result from the coupling of one and two
quasi particles to the lowest 3(-) excitation of the Pb-208 core. They show
the influence of particle octupole-vibration coupling in a pronounced and
clear way and verify the validity of this concept.
