Study of (p)over-bar N annihilations into five pions

Abstract
The preliminary analysis of four high statistic 5 pi data sets taken with t he Crystal Barrel detector shows that at least two scalar states are needed to describe the data, the f(0)(1370) with m = 1395 +/- 40 MeV/c(2), Gamma = 275 +/- 55 MeV/c(2) and the f(0)(1500) with mass and width compatible wit h previous findings. The first one decays dominantely into sigma sigma and rho rho, the second one into sigma sigma and pi*(1300)pi. In addition to th e dominant scalar intensity the pi*(1300) plays an important role in the 5 pi-dynamics. We found a mass of m = 1375 +/- 40 MeV/c(2) and a width of Gam ma = 268 +/- 50 MeV/c(2) with a dominat decay into rho pi. The (pi pi)(s)pi decay of the pi*(1300) is less than 15% of its rho pi decay as expected fo r a radial excitation of the pi.
