Abstract
Liver ethoxyresorufin ()-deethylase (EROD) activity, cytochrome P-450 (P-45 0) content, alanine transaminase (ALT) activity, somatic index (LSI) and er ythrocytic nuclear abnormalities (ENA) induction were investigated in juven ile Dicentrarchus labrax L. (sea bass) after 6 hours exposure to the low: ( LTW) and high tide (HTW) Aveiro harbour waters and to positive controls of beta-naphthoflavone (BNF) 0.1 and 2.7 mu M. The BNF exposed sea bass showed a significant increase in liver EROD activity and P-450 content (BNF 0.1 a nd 2.7 mu M) as well as ENA frequency (BNF 2.7 mu M). The HTW exposed sea b ass showed a significant ENA frequency and liver P-450 content increase. Th e LTW exposed sea bass, on the other hand, showed a significant ENA frequen cy increase with a significant liver P-450 content decrease.
