The vortex structure of a Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) single crystal was investi
gated using a vibrating reed technique. Below about 30 K, the reed touched
to a electrode above the magnetic held B-s, which was caused by the large m
agnetic torques originating from the intrinsic pinning and/or the Bur pinni
ng perpendicular to the CuO2 plane. The value of B-s depends on the angle b
etween the applied magnetic field and the CuO2 plane. The temperature depen
dences of B-s were measured at the various conditions. (C) 2000 Elsevier Sc
