Abstract
The magnetic properties of melt-spun amorphous Fe100-XGdX alloys were inves tigated over a wide concentration range (18 less than or equal to X less th an or equal to 60), The temperature dependence of magnetization showed char acteristic curves of the ferrimagnetism depending on the concentration, In the Gd-rich region, a characteristic temperature dependence of magnetizatio n, the so-called inflection-like behavior, was observed and found to be int rinsic. Assuming 7 mu(B) of Gd moment, the Fe magnetic moment was about 2 m u(B) irrespective of the concentration and this is quite different from the result for the vapor-quenched samples, The Curie temperatures of the melt- spun samples were higher by about 70 degrees than those of the vapor-quench ed ones. The discrepancy was ascribed to that of the Fe magnetic moment and the exchange interaction constants J(Gd-Fe) and J(Gd-Gd) between these sam ples. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
