Abstract
Solid-state NMR experiments are performed on amorphous blends of tri-p-toly lamine (TTA) and polycarbonate. Amines that are similar to TTA are blended with polycarbonates and used as photoconducting components in xerography. B ecause of its simple molecular structure. TTA is a charge-transporting mole cule that is used as a model to understand charge transport in photoconduct ing materials. Charge transfer between amine molecules must depend on the s eparation and relative orientation between amine molecules. However, little information is known about the structural relationship between the amine m olecules and the polymer host, presumably because of the difficulties assoc iated with characterizing amorphous materials. We report the results of C-1 3-N-14 rotational-echo, adiabatic-passage,double-resonance (REBPDOR) and C- 13-D-2 theta-rotational-echo, double-resonance (theta-REDOR) magic-angle sp inning NMR experiments on a TTA/polycarbonate blend. The experiments provid e information about the organization of TTA relative to polycarbonate. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
