Abstract
From a K-S(0) and Lambda enriched data sample first clear evidence for the rare Pontecorvo reactions (p) over bar d-->Lambda K-0 and (p) over bar d--> Sigma(0)K(0) (Sigma 0-->Lambda gamma, Lambda-->p pi(-)) were found. The dat a were taken with the Crystal-Barrel detector at LEAR, triggered on seconda ry vertices by means of a Si-micro-strip detector. Detailed analyses for K- L(0) (missing) or K-S(0) (-->pi(+)pi(-)) in the final state show surprising ly similar branching ratios for (p) over bar d-->Lambda K-0 and (p) over ba r d-->Sigma(0)K(0). This rules out a description of a Pontecorvo reaction b y a two step process and favours strongly a model of a statistically decayi ng fireball, formed in the annihilation process. From comparison to the cha nnel (p) over bar d-->p pi(-) open strangeness is found to be produced at a level of 10 %. Additional reactions of the Pontecorvo type were identified where the recoiling baryon is a neutron and the meson decays to (KSKS0)-K- 0.
