GAR-936, a nem glycylcycline, had lo,ver MICs (less than or equal to 0.016
to 0.125 mu g/ml) for 201 peniciliin- and tetracycline-susceptible and -res
istant pneumococcal strains than tetracycline (less than or equal to 0.06 t
o 128 mu g/ml), minocycline (less than or equal to 0.06 to 16.0 mu g/ml), o
r doxycycline (less than or equal to 0.06 to 32.0 mu g/ml). GAR-936 was als
o bactericidal against 11 of 12 strains tested at the MIC after 24 h, with
significant kill rates at earlier time points.
