Nuclear radii of B-17,B-19 and Be-14

Abstract
The interaction cross sections (sigma(1)) of light radioactive nuclei close to the neutron drip line (B-17,B-19, Be-14) have been measured at around 8 00A MeV. The effective root-mean-square (r.m.s.) matter radii of these nucl ei have been deduced from sigma(1) by two different methods, a Glauber-type calculation based on the optical limit approximation and a few-body reacti on model. The deduced radii from both approaches agree with each other with in experimental uncertainty. The r.m.s. radii of B-17 (2.99 +/- 0.09 fm) an d of Be-14 (3.10 +/- 0.15 fm) in this work are consistent with the previous ly determined values, and have a higher accuracy. The r.m.s. radius of B-19 (3.11 +/- 0.13 fm) was newly determined. Assuming a ''core plus 2n'' struc ture in B-17 and Be-14, the mixing of v(2s(1/2)) and v(1d(5/2)) was studied and the a-wave spectroscopic factor is found to be 36 +/- 19% and 47 +/- 2 5%, respectively. A valence radius analysis suggests a ''core plus 4n'' str ucture in B-19. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
