Abstract
Based on primers designed according to conserved sequences of the NRAMP1 ge ne, horse genomic DNA was used for amplification, cloning, and sequencing o f the putative horse orthologue. Sequence alignment revealed high level of homologies with other mammalian species ranging from 93.1 % (sheep) to 85.1 % (mouse). The horse sequences were identified as exons 3, 4, 5, and 6. Th e amino acid position corresponding to the site 169 of the gly to asp subst itution in mice is occupied by glycine in the hone. Differences between Old Kladruber and Akhal-Teke hones in allelic frequencies of two intronic RFLP markets of the horse NRAMP1 gene were found.
