Abstract
The deuteron deep inelastic unpolarized structure function F-2(D) is descri bed using the Wilson operator product expansion method. In the leading twis t approximation the convolution model is restored and an explicit formula f or the nucleon distribution function in the deuteron is presented, accounti ng for binding effects in a covariant way. The long distance behavior, rela ted to the deuteron bound state properties, is evaluated using the Bethe-Sa lpeter equation with one nucleon on-mass-shell. The calculation of the rati o F-2(D)/2F(2)(N) is compared with other convolution models showing importa nt deviations in the region of large x. In part, this deviation can be attr ibuted to deuteron model dependencies.
