Abstract
An exact solution for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations for a time-de pendent, two-dimensional flow of an incompressible plasma with a uniform sh ear-strain rate in hyperbolic magnetic field is given. This solution predic ts that the presence of a shear-strain in the plasma-flow tends to impede t he current-sheet formation near the hyperbolic magnetic neutral line. (C) 1 999 Elsevier Science B.V.
